Hey everyone! My name is Roger Braun and I am a student (still) of japanese studies and computer science. My works and interests lie mainly in the intersection of the two.
You can find most of the stuff I do here. Mainly in german, though.
Blog, Podcast, etc.
If you want, you can read my thoughts here or at Twitter. I even have a tumbleblog and a skeptical podcast. Wow!
Projects
I am interested in many things, often related to Japanese and information processing. I am trying to help out with Tegaki Project, a free software Chinese and Japanese handwriting recognition.
I am (with many others!) working on a German-Classical Japanese dictionary over at Wadokukogo. I am also a member of the Wadoku e.V.
I have made a several modded firmwares for the Android slate device known as the aPad. You can find everything about that at SlateDroid.
You can find some programming of mine (mostly ruby, mostly web) at GitHub.
My thesis will be about a collaborative translation system using web technologies, with the focus on classical japanese (enough buzzwords?). This system has already been used extensively and a book made with it, a translation of a 17th century, classical japanese story, will come out later this year (hopefully). The code is not available yet, sorry. You can find a presentation in German here. Code should come out later this year, too.
I have done other stuff, too: Translation (from classical Japanese into German), database migration from FileMaker, programming of a web OPAC system, building a (very) simple CMS for small business websites...
